Karen Schrock

Board Member

Karen Schrock has been a consultant to nonprofit organizations on health care since her retirement in 2015 from Adult Well-Being Services, where she served as President & CEO for 17 years. Prior to that she worked for the Michigan Department of Public Health for 20 years in a variety of leadership positions, including Chief of the Office of Substance Abuse Services, Chief of the Division of Services to Crippled Children (since renamed Children’s Special Healthcare Services), Founding Chief of the Office of Minority Health and Chief of the Eastern Regional Division. Her first position after college was with the Michigan League for Human Services (since renamed the Michigan League for Public Policy) where she was a Planning/Research Associate and advocated on key human services policies.

Karen is a native Detroiter and graduated from Cass Technical High School. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Michigan State University with High Honor from the Honors College. She acquired her Master of Science Degree from Michigan State University in Criminal Justice. She was adjunct faculty at the University of Detroit Mercy in the Addiction Studies Department for ten years. She has served on dozens of non-profit boards and was appointed to state commissions by several governors. She has been a grant reviewer for the federal government for over 25 years. In addition to nonprofit board service, she currently mentors undergraduate students at Michigan State University. She is married with three sons and two grandsons.
