POLICY AND PROJECT COORDINATOR

Rachel Meeker is a committed advocate for social justice, seamlessly integrating her academic background and personal experiences into her work. As the daughter of a disabled single mother, she navigated her environment using public transportation and various accommodations. These experiences have profoundly influenced her advocacy for the rights of individuals to access essential resources, particularly in the realms of equitable mobility and healthcare.
Rachel holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Master of Arts in Religious Studies from the University of California, with a focus on the intersection of gender, religion, and social justice movements. As a proud Quaker, her advocacy efforts are deeply rooted in the principles of her lifelong faith. Following her graduation, Rachel served as the Assistant Director of an education and employment program in Los Angeles aimed at supporting homeless youth transitioning from foster care, probation, and chronic homelessness. This experience reinforced her belief that everyone is entitled to have their basic needs met. Subsequently, she transitioned from homeless services to the agricultural sector, where she worked as a livestock manager for several years, cultivating a keen interest in food sovereignty and enhancing equity within the food system.
Now residing in Northwest Detroit, Rachel leads a local nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for equitable food systems in addition to her policy work with MOSES. Beyond her professional commitments, she proudly embraces the role of a childless cat owner, caring for three orange feline companions.
