Danielle Carin Dunn centers her work on building intentional community through storytelling, event curation, and organizing. She is the author of the IvyLocs children’s chapter-book series written to challenge the stereotypical, media-driven narrative about Black identity. Danielle is creating stories that reflect the depth and richness of the black community for those within the community- especially the youth.

Danielle is a conscious parenting advocate who works to help parents investigate how mainstream parenting and traditional educational practices maintain racial dominance and control. She works to reimagine societies that are free of punitive norms by providing practical ways to utilize abolitionist thinking in our schools and our homes.

During her tenure as Census Digital Communications/ Community Affairs Manager, she designed digital communication for the “Census 2020 Michigan Nonprofits Count Campaign.” This ambitious effort mobilized nonprofits and partnered with state and local government to encourage participation in the census in communities that are at significant risk of being undercounted.

As a proud Detroit Public School graduate and alums of Eastern Michigan University, Danielle majored in African-American Studies and English, Language, and Literature.

Her writings and opinions have been featured in the Detroit News and the National Black Women’s Roundtable on the State of Black Women in Michigan report. A dedicated community servant, Dunn is the recipient of a Spirit of Detroit Award for “Dedicated Community Service” and a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for “Outstanding Community Service.” She is a founding member of the Black Fem Freedom Collective. This Black-centered intentional community actively centers the mental, spiritual, and emotional health of Black Fems, our children, and the larger community by working to decolonize from harmful social, racial, and gender constructs.

Danielle writes to marry her love of language and storytelling with activism.
